Business Office Efficiency Review Presented to the Board of Education

Emporia, KS – At the Wednesday evening Board of Education meeting, Dr. Kellen Adams of KJA ENTERPRISES, LLC, presented the results of a comprehensive Business Office Culture and Efficiency Study conducted for Emporia Public Schools over the past several weeks. The study was designed to provide a clear picture of how the district’s business operations function and to identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency and long-term effectiveness.

To gather information, Dr. Adams collected data through interviews with individuals and small groups over two days, along with a review of existing processes and protocol documents. This approach allowed him to identify key themes related to how business services support schools and departments across the district.

The review examined daily business operations, including communication practices, workflows, staffing capacity, and the use of systems and tools. The overall goal of the study was to ensure strong financial accountability, reliable service to schools, and alignment with widely recognized best practices in school business operations.

Dr. Adams noted that the district’s Business Department is staffed by dedicated professionals whose work supports nearly every aspect of district operations. His findings highlighted opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, and predictability in business processes so schools and departments have a better understanding of expectations and timelines. These opportunities were presented as ways to build upon existing strengths while continuing to support staff and enhance overall service.

Superintendent Dr. McGehee emphasized the importance of the review and its role in long-term planning, stating, “This study gives us a clear picture of how our business operations support the work of our schools and where we can continue to strengthen our systems. The insight received provides us with the opportunity to be more strategic in developing measurable actions that lead to greater efficiencies and success in our business operations.”

The study includes practical recommendations that can be addressed over time, with a focus on improving communication, refining processes, supporting staff workload, and planning for long-term sustainability. District leadership will review the findings and develop next steps as part of the district’s ongoing commitment to responsible management and continuous improvement.

By completing this review and sharing the results publicly, Emporia Public Schools demonstrates its commitment to transparency, thoughtful planning, and strong stewardship of district resources in support of students, staff, and the community.
